Eastside Audubon 2010 Christmas Bird Count Highlights
The Eastside Audubon Society (EAS) had its 2010 CBC on Saturday, Dec. 18. It was cloudy and windy from about 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., wind quit & some clearing until 2 p.m. when wind with rain came back, temperatures of 42-48 F. Many of the fields were flooded due to the recent heavy rain. Some roads had only opened the day before.
We had a record 54 people covering eight areas (the CBC circle is centered just south of Beaver Lake in Sammamish). We had one backyard bird count and ended up with 94 species which includes 4 seen during count week. This is our 2nd highest total, compares to a high of 95 in 2008 CBC. The total of 13,035 birds compares to a 10 year average (10YA) of 14,757.
