Camano Island Field Trip (2/8/03) Highlights

Nearly frozen fingers and noses couldn't keep the group from enjoying and seeing a great number of birds.

Seen were Western Meadowlark, Trumpeter Swan, Snow Goose, Short-eared Owl, Rough-legged Hawk, Peregrine, eagles and hawks, Barrow's Goldeneye, Red-breasted Merganser, Red-necked Grebe, Red-throated Loon and a number of other waterfowl.

Lincoln's, Golden-crowned, White-crowned sparrows hopped out the bushes. Mourning Doves braved the chilly air while the Sanderling and Dunlin didn't seem to notice the eager faces staring down scopes.

The unexpected highlight had to the Great Horned Owl found sitting low in the bushes for all to see. There were 16 birders and 70 species sighted.
