Cougar Mountain Field Trip (3/13/03) Highlights

In spite of the dire weather predictions, the hike was practically rain-free.

Three people turned out for the trip because they'd read about it in a newspaper. At the Park n Ride some people saw a Bald Eagle, Glaucous-winged Gull and Great Blue Heron.

At the highest level of the Park there were many Varied Thrush, Fox and Song Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, American Robin and illusive Winter Wrens. Golden-crowned Kinglets were high in the trees. Also seen were Hairy and Downy Woodpecker, Brown Creeper, and Northern Flicker. At the lower area of the Park there were Black-capped Chickadee and Spotted Towhee. A Common Raven was heard.

For the 5 birders it turned out to be a perfect day with 20 birds to our list.
