Purdy and Key Peninsula Field Trip (10/19/02) Highlights

Mary Cadigan led this field trip on a cloudy, cool and sometimes misty day.

The trip highlight was a Rock Wren in the rocks at Joemma Park that we enjoyed watching for a few minutes. At the Fox Island bridge we saw more than 100 Pacific Loons and more than 100 Pelagic Cormorants in the water and roosting under the bridge.

There were numerous Horned, Western and Red-necked Grebes. Golden-crowned Kinglets were in full display at Kopachuck Park, Harlequin Ducks and White-winged Scoters at Penrose Point. There were only two male Wood Ducks at Snake Lake where the low water left only one small pond.  There were 7 birders and 44 species sighted.
