Stilliguamish, Skagit, and Samish Flats Field Trip (12/7/03) Highlights

The day started out in the 30s with fog, but became clear and sunny in the afternoon.

We started out in the Stilliguamish Flats area on Norman Road, Thomle Road and Eide Road. Then to the Skagit Flats with lunch at Bayview State Park and ended up in Samish Flats at the west 90, Padilla Bay and Edison areas.

A total of 19 Bald Eagles, 63 Red-tailed Hawks, 3 beautiful Rough-legged Hawks, 15 Northern Harrier, 1 American Kestrel, great looks at a Prairie Falcon and 3 Short-eared Owls.

Other highlights were a Northern Shrike, Ring-necked Pheasants, Trumpeter Swans, thousands of Snow Geese, Harlequin Ducks, and Yellow-rumped Warblers.

There were 12 birders and 64 species sighted.
