Green Lake Field Trip (12/6/03) Highlights
It was a very nice, mostly sunny morning for this walk around Green Lake with Martin Muller.
We started out with five birders and were later joined by four others for part of the walk. Martin has a wealth of information about the history of Green Lake as well as the birds. I have been on this walk about seven times and I learn something new each year.
Highlights were two Bald Eagles and two Eurasian Wigeons in a large flock of American Wigeon. We saw a flock of about 40 American Goldfinch feeding in the trees. A number of Pied-billed Grebes were present, as well as, Northern Shoveler, Common Goldeneye, Bufflehead, Hooded and Common Mergansers and Ruddy Ducks.
As usual there were a lot of gulls on the docks. We
identified Glaucous-winged, Mew, Ring-billed, Western and a number of
hybrids. All in all, there were 9 birders and 33 species sighted.
