Kenmore Great Blue Heron Colony Viewing (3/10/06) Highlights

The weather was excellent with sunshine and the herons were abundant and displaying.

Three members of Eastside Audubon, Joyce Meyer, Mike West and Hugh Jennings provided spotting scopes for the public to view the over 30 active herons nests at the north end of the Kenmore P&R. There were at least 40 people that showed up between 11 and 12 a.m. A photographer for the Northshore newspapers was taking photos of the people looking at the herons.

At noon we all walked up to the nearby Kenmore Library where Mike West gave an excellent Powerpoint presentation about Great Blue Herons. There were over 40 people that filled up the library to watch the program and ask questions. The previous Tuesday, Don Ward, a reporter for the Northshore newspapers interviewed MaryFrancis Mathis and Bev and Hugh Jennings about birds in general. The article and photos should come out in the papers about the middle of April.
