Lake Hills Greenbelt Field Trip (9/9/04) Highlights

It was a pleasure to share our local birds with Jindra and Mita Blaha, visitors from the Czech Republic.

Scoping American Crow, Northern Flicker, House Finch, Pine Siskin, American Goldfinch, and perched Barn Swallows, reminded the birders not to take our neighborhood birds for granted. Also seen were Great Blue Heron, flocks of Band-tailed Pigeons, Bewick's Wren, and Common Yellowthroat.

Black-capped Chickadee, Red-breasted Nuthatch and Pacific-slope Flycatcher were seen in the conifer trees near the public trail. A Lincoln's Sparrow gave fleeting glances as it darted in the blackberry bushes. An Anna's Hummingbird flew straight at the group before stopping to feed at a nearby bush. A Pied-billed Grebe could be seen at Phantom Lake along with Wood Duck, Canada Goose, and Belted Kingfisher.

There were 9 birders and 34 species sighted.
