Lake Sammamish State Park Field Trip (1/8/04) Highlights

A cool, cloudy winter day and a walk through snowy slush yielded good looks at Red-breasted Sapsucker, Eurasian Wigeon, Brown Creeper, and Ruby and Golden-crowned Kinglet.

Among the many gulls were Mew, Ring-billed, California, Herring and Glaucous-winged. Waterfowl included lots of American Wigeon, along with Mallard, Bufflehead, Green-winged Teal, Ruddy Duck, Common Goldeneye and Hooded Merganser.

One Wilson's Snipe flew past and four American Pipits were scoped in the grass near the swimming area. Bald Eagle, Red-tailed Hawk and Sharp-shinned Hawk added to the day's enjoyment. Pishing brought out many small birds, among which was a lovely albinistic Fox Sparrow. There were 6 birders and 45 species sighted.
