MacDonald Park Field Trip (9/22/03) Highlights

It was a beautiful, sunny day with a temperature of about 70, on this last day of summer when we visited MacDonald Park in Carnation.

We saw a lot of salmon in the Snoqualmie River from the hanging (swaying) bridge. Also, from the bridge were Common Mergansers and a Belted Kingfisher. A highlight of the trip was a Red-breasted Sapsucker that allowed good views in the spotting scopes.

Steller's Jays and Northern Flickers were numerous. One Yellow-rumped Warbler gave us a fleeting look. On the return over the bridge we saw an Osprey and a Turkey Vulture. The complete list of birds follows: Canada Goose - Common Merganser - Turkey Vulture - Osprey - Red-tailed Hawk - Rock Dove - Belted Kingfisher - Red-breasted Sapsucker - Northern Flicker - Steller's Jay - American Crow - American Robin - Bewick's Wren - Black-capped Chickadee - House Finch - Yellow-rumped Warbler - Song Sparrow - Spotted Towhee.

There were 5 birders and 18 species sighted.
