Paul Dye Aviary and Corson Refuge Field Trip (3/1/03) Highlights
It was a perfect, sunny day in the 40’s for our trip through the aviary and refuge.
There were only six people representing Eastside Audubon and about 30 from Pilchuck Audubon Society. We had an excellent tour of the aviary with all of the exotic waterfowl that we never see in our area. Paul is really doing a tremendous service breeding and raising these birds and providing them to many foreign countries and zoos. For more information about what he is doing go to the web site: www.greatnorthern.net/~dye/.
We did see a number of wild birds as well. Highlights were a pair of American Black Ducks, a mature Bald Eagle soaring high overhead, a possible Gyrfalcon soaring above the eagle, three Brown Creepers, a Hairy Woodpecker, many Ruby-crowned Kinglet and we heard two Ruffed Grouse drumming. There were 36 birders in all and 20 species sighted.
