Tradition and Round Lakes Field Trip (12/22/03) Highlights

It was a clear, cool (36-40 degrees) day for this Monday Hotspots trip to the Issaquah plateau.

The woods looked like a disaster area with so many big trees blown down in recent wind storms. Many of the trails were closed, but the ones we used had been opened up by extensive use of chainsaws.

The species list of 15 was low compared to 23 and 25 the past two years. The highlight of the trip was excellent looks at a Red-breasted Sapsucker. The complete list of birds seen is: Brown Creeper, two Bald Eagles soaring high overhead, Double-crested Cormorant, Ring-necked Duck, Bufflehead, Belted Kingfisher, Common Raven, Black-capped and Chestnut-backed Chickadees, Red-breasted Nuthatch heard, Winter Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Spotted Towhee and Song Sparrow.

There were 7 birders and 15 species sighted.
