Vashon Island Field Trip (3/22/03) Highlights
Positive attitudes assured birding in partly sunny, albeit windy, weather.
Two Brant were scoped at KVI Beach; Pacific and Red-throated Loons were scoped at Shawnee Point; and Barrows Goldeneye were numerous.
Horned, Red-necked and Western Grebe were seen along with White-winged Scoter and Red-breasted Merganser. Birds at Robinson Park were vocal and seen well.
Species included two Pileated-Woodpeckers, many Yellow-rumped Warblers, a Hutton's Vireo, as well as Orange-crowned Warbler, Downy Woodpecker, N. Flicker, Bushtit, chickadees, kinglets, Bewick's Wren, and Rufous Hummingbird. There were several Wood Duck along with Bufflehead and Ring-necked Duck at a freshwater pond. Black-tailed deer were seen throughout the island. There were 8 people and 62 species sighted.
