Event Old Sauk River Trail Native Plant Walk (Old Sauk River Trail, from Jun 26, 2010 10:00 AM to Jun 26, 2010 06:00 PM)
Leisurely 3-mile r.t. forest walk along river- no elevation gain. Dwarf dogwoods, twinflowers, and starflowers are abundant on the forest floor. This trip will focus on finding the elusive coral root and perhaps native ginger.

February 12-15 (Friday-Monday) The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent and in Hawaii.

February 20 (Sat.) 7:00 a.m. (prompt) to 5:00 p.m. We will work our way up the Kitsap Peninsula to the Sequim area. This is a good time to search out a wide variety of waterfowl, loons, grebes and alcids.

Vashon Island contains a wealth of birding opportunities in May, from shorebirds at Point Robinson, to Purple Martins and Brant at Tramp Harbor, to Harlequin Ducks at the Tahlequah dock.

The Nisqually NWR offers a diverse combination of habitats and birds. The delta is bounded by rivers on each side with marshes, deciduous woods and wide open areas easily accessed by a 5 mile loop trail.

Event Navaho Pass Bird Hike - June 28, 2010 (from Jun 28, 2010 05:30 AM to Jun 28, 2010 06:00 PM)
This 11-mile roundtrip Navaho Pass hike in the Teanaway River area is a great bird hike. Hiking time is about 6-7 hours, with a gradual elevation gain of 3,000 feet, on a very nice trail with some shade and lots of light, reaching a high point of 6,000 feet (where we’ll eat lunch overlooking the magnificent Stuart Mountain Range). (For a complete description of this hike, read pages 120-121 in “100 Hikes--Washington’s Alpine Lakes,” 3rd edition.)

Meet before 9:00 a.m. at north end of the Newport Hills Park-N-Ride (I-405, exit 9) and plan to be back by noon. This month we plan on trying to find the Phantom Orchid in the Preston Arboretum area which is north of High Point Way road. Alternatively, you can meet us about 9:15 a.m. at Exit 20, High Point Way, from I-90. After exiting I-90, turn left, go north under I-90 and park in the area. Passenger cost/person $2.00. July 10-11 (Sat.-Sun.) 11:00 a.m. Our annual Olympic Peninsula wildflower trip featuring views, birds, and varied wildlife. On Saturday at 11:00 a.m. we will meet at the picnic table across the street from the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center for a snack lunch. (This is the Center at the base of the foothills, the one before you actually enter the park.) Look for the picnic tables at front of the Center.
