Native Plant Walk at Pritchard Island Beach Park, 8400 55th Ave S, South Seattle -- Saturday, August 18. We will walk the gravel path that starts at the edge of the parking lot as it winds through nine acres of prairies and marshy wildlife habitat. In August, we should be treated to beautiful displays of goldenrod and numerous species of asters in the prairies. This park has been extensively restored in the past five years by Starflower Foundation and has one of the highest diversities of native plants in Seattle.
We will watch for herons in Pritchard Pond and listen for Pacific Chorus frogs, which are abundant in the pond. Birds that have been spotted in the marsh, prairies, and along the Lake Washington shoreline include mergansers, mallards, bald eagles, hawks, cormorants, humming birds, wigeons, flickers, song sparrows and towhees.
The paths are approximately 1-2 miles long with no elevation gain. Meet before 3 p.m. (NEW TIME) at the Wilburton P&R (I-405 and SE 8th St.). No sign-up required. For more information, contact Ella Elman at office@eastsideaudubon.org. Several of us will be going to dinner afterward at Hong Kong Seafood Restaurant. We would love to have you join us if you can.
