St. Edwards State Park

Development is being considered for St. Edwards State Park. In order to preserve this beautiful park, we are monitoring and participating in the evaluation process.

St. Edwards State Park in Kenmore is unique on the east side of Lake Washington. It's 316 acres consist of a large natural area, with many wooded trails, beach access on the lake, some recreational areas, including a swimming pool, and a large historic building that previously was used as a seminary. The building has not been used in years, and the state parks department is considering private development of the building and it's surroundings. Part of the push behind this concept is the overriding idea that parks all over the state have to begin generating revenue. Also, the building rehabilitation would be very expensive.

One of the ideas being considered for the site is private development of the building and areas surrounding it for a McMenamin's Brewpub and hotel.

Another proposal is for Bastyr University, a natural medicine college located on the adjoining property, use the building for student housing.
