Crows: Clever, Curious, and Charismatic

Loma Pendergraft, PhD candidate at UW.

Loma Pendergraft, PhD candidate at UW.

Please join us on October 28th for a virtual presentation with Loma Pendergraft on American crow communication and intelligence!  Loma is a PhD candidate at UW who is working under Dr. John Marzluff to study American crow communication and intelligence. His work has been featured in Audubon, National Geographic, and Bill Nye Saves the World. He holds a BS in Wildlife Ecology from Oklahoma State and a Masters in Environmental and Forest Science from UW, and was previously a science teacher for Tulsa Public Schools. Visit his website at lomapendergraft.com.

Thanks to their advanced intelligence, crows are able to interact with their environment (and one another) to a surprising degree. In this talk, we will discuss some fun and interesting crow facts, explore some of the more famous research conducted by the Marzluff lab, and finish with an introduction into Loma's own research into crow communication and problem-solving capabilities. Many stories testify to the astonishing brain power that these birds possess!
