FIRST-TIME BIRDER WALK AT TOLT RIVER-JOHN McDONALD PARK IN CARNATION

  • Tolt River-John McDonald Park 31020 NE 40th St Carnation, WA 98014 United States (map)

This field trip is for the novice birder, someone with little or no birding experience. It includes a combination of instruction and field time. Trip leaders Lori and Anne will first cover topics such as birding etiquette, bird identification, using field guides, birding apps and binoculars. Then they will lead the group on a birding trip through the park. At the conclusion there will be time for Q&A.

This trip is a good primer before heading out on your own or joining other Audubon field trips. Children 10+ are permitted if accompanied by a parent/guardian.

The pace for this walk will be leisurely, mostly on gravel or dirt trails that are fairly level in grade, with a few stretches on the paved path. The distance covered will be less than three miles. There are portable toilets available

Due to COVID-19 safety protocols you must provide your own binoculars.

The trip is free but limited to 8 people and pre-registration and agreement to follow COVID-19 safety protocols is required. The following COVID-19 safety protocols apply for this bird walk:

  • This event is entirely outdoors; a mask is required if not vaccinated otherwise is optional.

  • Participants are required to self-assess prior to the walk and must not attend if they have any COVID related symptoms (e.g. elevated temperature) or have been in contact with anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past two weeks.

  • The trip leader is fully vaccinated.
