The greenbelt encompasses 150 acres and parts of the trail follow the route of an old Native American trail that led from Phantom Lake to Kirkland. We will walk about 3 miles on the main trail from Phantom Lake in the south to Larsen Lake in the north and back. The trail snakes through wetlands, meadows, forests, and cultivated fields, and overlooks two lakes. Over 120 species of birds have been seen in the greenbelt. We will walk a moderate pace over generally flat terrain on a mix of paved and dirt and gravel trails and a short boardwalk. Bring binoculars, a snack and fluids, and dress for the weather. The leader will carry a scope. Meet at 8:00 a.m. at the Phantom Lake parking lot (2098 156th Ave, SE, Bellevue). Registration is not required. Questions can be directed to the trip leader by e-mail.
