FIRST-TIME BIRDER WALK AT MARYMOOR PARK REDMOND

  • Marymoor Park 6046 West Lake Sammamish Parkway Northeast Redmond, WA, 98052 United States (map)

This field trip is for the novice birder, someone with little or no birding experience. It includes a combination of instruction and field time. Trip leaders Lori and Jennifer will first cover topics such as birding etiquette, bird identification, using field guides, birding apps and binoculars. Then they will lead the group on a birding trip through the park. At the conclusion there will be time for Q&A.

This trip is a good primer before heading out on your own or joining other Audubon field trips. Children 10+ are permitted if accompanied by a parent/guardian.

The pace for this walk will be leisurely, on a combination of solid pavement, gravel trail, boardwalk, level (possibly muddy) trails and grass. The distance is less than three miles.

Meeting location: Entering the park from West Lake Sammamish Parkway, meet at the Marymoor Park Office parking lot (first parking lot on the right). There is a $1 parking fee (kiosk at that location takes cash/coins).

Due to COVID-19 safety protocols you must provide your own binoculars.

The trip is free but limited to 10 people, preregistration and agreement to follow COVID-19 safety protocols is required:

  • This event is entirely outdoors, mask wearing is optional but welcome.

  • Participants are required to self-assess prior to the walk and must not attend if they have any COVID related symptoms (e.g. elevated temperature) or have been in contact with anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past two weeks.

  • The trip leaders are fully vaccinated.
