This full-day field trip will explore the flats and waterways near Padilla Bay and Fir Island in Skagit County. Shorebirds will still be migrating and some winter waterfowl including ducks, Snow Geese, and swans will be arriving. Raptors including hawks, owls, and falcons hunt in the area. We’re also sure to find some migrating and resident songbirds. On the way home if time allows we will stop at Eide Road to meet the incoming tide to see which birds are moving through the area. We’ll leave from Kingsgate Park & Ride at 7:00 a.m. Bring lunch and dress for the weather. Scopes will be helpful. Carpools can be arranged for those who are vaccinated against COVID-19. There will be several stops for birding and some short walks over gravel trails are included.
Pace: leisurely/moderate, Terrain: Soft ground, sand, gravel, dirt roads. Hiking trails with gently rolling hills.
Passenger cost per person for carpool is $12.00. Return by early evening.
