100 Flying Birds Photographer and Author Will Speak at the November Program Night
Peter Cavanaugh, a photographer and author who specializes in the mechanics of bird flight, will be the guest speaker at the Eastside Audubon Program Night in November.
In his presentation, he will show images and read passages from his book 100 Flying Birds: Photographing the Mechanics of Flight and share new images from a recent journey to Africa, including photographs of the endangered Gray Crowned-Crane.
Peter is a Pacific Northwest wildlife photographer and author who has been taking photographs since he was a boy of five growing up in England. His book was published by Firefly Books in November 2021.
After a career in academia as a Professor of Biomechanics at Penn State, the Cleveland Clinic, and the University of Washington (which included almost 20 years of research for NASA) Peter has devoted himself full-time to bird photography. His images have been included three times in the Top 100 Bird Photographs of the Year by the Audubon Society. He is a member of the North American Nature Photographers Association. Peter guest curated the Exhibit How Birds Fly at the Seattle Museum of Flight. He lives in the San Juan Islands of Washington State.
