VIRTUAL PROGRAM NIGHT: THE STORIES BEHIND ERIC SMITH'S AWARD-WINNING PHOTOGRAPHS

Bearing Witness: The Stories Behind Eric Smith’s Award-Winning Photographs

Join us on February 24th at 7p.m. on Zoom to hear Eric J. Smith talk about the stories behind his award-winning photos.

An Audubon award-winning photographer, Eric has shot many stunning photos during his 25-year career. But he isn’t satisfied with just taking a beautiful photo. He wants his photos to tell a story. “Looking at a pretty picture isn’t enough,” says the documentary filmmaker. “What the image does to the viewer is more important than the image itself.”

Here’s your chance to hear the story behind his work including the 2020 Audubon award-winning photo of a tiny fig wasp climbing the beak of a perplexed Allen’s hummingbird. He will also discuss how he shot the photo that went viral of a gray whale innocently observing a group of whale watchers who are looking the wrong way.

His work has been featured by the National Geographic, Smithsonian, the Royal Photographic Society, the British Journal of Photography and the National Audubon Society. He also took first place in the 7th Annual Members Exhibition at the Los Angeles Center of Photography. See Eric’s work at his website and on Instagram.
