JOIN US: This field trip will provide photographers with a hard-to-come-by opportunity to photograph wildflowers, birds, and mammals on this rarely visited San Juan island.

It is a photographers’ paradise in the spring when its grasslands blossom with camas, paintbrush, fawn lilies, and other wildflowers.

ABOUT: The 217-acre island was purchased by the San Juan Preservation Trust in 2010 to protect it from future development as well as provide access to the public.  Vendovi Island is characterized by six pristine beaches, rare prairie habitat, bountiful wildlife, and lush forests. The island is also home to sea birds, eagles, seals, and river otters.  The island vegetation flourishes as it has no deer or rabbits to devour the fragile plants.

The island, which has no regular ferry service, is located east of Sinclair Island, west of Bellingham, and between Guemes and Lummi Islands.  It is a 40-minute water-taxi ride. The island has about 2 miles of hiking trails that are rated as moderate.

SAFETY: The following COVID-19 safety protocols apply for this workshop: All participants must be fully vaccinated. This event is entirely outdoors, so masks are optional at this time. Participants are required to self-assess prior to the workshop and must not attend if they have any COVID-related symptoms (e.g. elevated temperature) or have been in contact with anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past two weeks. The workshop leader is fully vaccinated.

Please note that the trip is limited to 20 participants. The transportation fee is non-refundable.
