We’ll have a day of winter birding on Whidbey Island to check for Black Oystercatcher, Marbled Murrelets, Red-throated and Common Loons, Red-necked Grebes, wintering ducks including Surf and White-winged Scoter, Harlequin and Long-tailed Ducks, and shorebirds and songbirds. We will drive north to SR 20 to Rosario Head followed by stops at West Beach, Swantown, Penn Cove, Coupeville Wharf, Crockett Lake and Deer Lagoon. Stops may change depending on the birds reported at the time of the trip. Bring binoculars, lunch, snacks, and liquids. Scopes will be helpful. Dress warmly in layers and bring rain gear (good against cold as well as rain). I would appreciate if someone could bring one or two more radios.
This full-day trip will make about 10 stops with short walks on level or paved ground. We will work our way south on Whidbey Island and board late afternoon ferry from Clinton to Mukilteo. Return to Kirkland by about 5:00 p.m. or earlier. Registration required, click the button below to register.
Discover Pass needed by drivers.
Carpool cost: $10.00 per non-driver, plus cost of ferry, shared equally by riders.
