Field Trip - Wiley Slough, Fir Island, and Eide Road, Stanwood

  • Kingsgate Park and Ride 13001 116th Avenue Northeast Kirkland, WA, 98034 United States (map)

Shorebird migration will be active in late September, and we will take advantage of it to observe the tidal flats and waterways of Fir Island and the Eide Road estuary. In addition to shorebirds, we will also watch for migrating waterfowl and raptors, and any songbirds along the way.

For those who wish to carpool, meet at the south end of the Kingsgate Park & Ride before 7:00 a.m. Carpool passenger cost to driver $8.00.

Our first stop will be at the Eide Road section of Leque Island, Stanwood, WA. You can meet the leader there at about 7:45-8:00 a.m.

We will bird at Eide Road first, and then decide to go to Camano Island or Wiley Slough depending on bird reports. Bring binoculars, lunch, fluids, and dress for the weather. Scopes will be helpful. We will walk at a leisurely pace on level packed gravel trails. The longest walk will be about one mile. Restrooms or portable toilets are available at most stops. Return to Kirkland by about 5:00 p.m.

Register on the Eastside Audubon website. Leader Andy McCormick can be contacted on the day of trip at (425) 518-0892.

COVID-19 Protocol: Full vaccination required. Bring hand sanitizer and mask to wear in cars, stores, and whenever you feel it is needed.
