At our annual board retreat in January, one of the goals the board set for the year was to strengthen Eastside Audubon’s birding program. We’d like to reach more people in our community by offering a wider variety of field trips and bird walks, to more places, and with more trip leaders.

For the Marymoor clean up in January, we were fortunate to have partly sunny skies and cold weather.  We had over 60 volunteers in attendance and about half were youth volunteers, which gave us over 190 volunteer hours for January. 

As the holiday season and end of the year approach, I am overwhelmed by how much there is to be thankful for in our community of passionate birders, environmental advocates, and nature enthusiasts.

This past year was an incredible achievement for wildlife and the places animals and people need to thrive. Your support, volunteer hours, and advocacy helped secure important wins for birds and the environment and we couldn't have done it without you. Check out this short video we made just for you!

Eastside Audubon is hiring a part-time bookkeeper to help the organization. This contract position works independently to perform all bookkeeping functions for the chapter.

Last month, 22 volunteers worked 68.5 hours in the oak savannah (the southern half of the meadow, past the sheds). To be honest, it is more of an English hawthorn savannah… but we are working hard to change it!

Eastside Audubon is partnering with Animal Data Science and the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology to compare chickadee nest monitoring methods and we need your help!

It’s been awhile since the last news from Marymoor, so here is what we’ve been up to for the last few months. Fall is here and we are back in the meadow and oak savannah. The Scotch broom sweep went surprisingly quick – I think volunteers did a thorough job this past spring. The small weed wrenches seem to work well for pulling out the roots. Seeds are viable for over 30 years, so we will need to stay on top of any new sprouts.
