Just for you: Resources for Parents, Grandparents, Teachers

by Mary Britton-Simmons

Are you a parent, grandparent or teacher who wants information on the best places to bird on the Eastside? Is your student intrigued by birds and keen to read about them? What websites are there to lure him into conservation? Are you an avid reader who now wants to focus on kids and birds? Then check out the Youth Education Committee (YEC) pages on the EAS website where you will find a plethora of information for the young and not-so-young, including:

  • Places to bird. Spring is magical for children and birds at the Bellevue Botanical Garden.

  • Fun outdoor activities. Enjoy your middle schooler and peacocks on Education Possible.

  • Websites about birds. NaturExplorers will morph your student into a scientist.

  • Books for children: Do you know how birds use their feathers? No? Then check out: Feathers Not Just for Flying by Melissa Steward.

  • Books for adults who love watching birds with children. Take your child on an owl journey. Help her to write about and draw these raptors.

The YEC would like to share in your exploration of other resources for children. Let me know if you find a hidden gem in your search on the web so I can add it to our Resource pages.
