President’s Letter: Thank You to Our Volunteers!
By Lori Danielson
Happy New Year! January is traditionally the month in which we hold a dinner to recognize and thank the many volunteers who make Eastside Audubon what it is and carry out the mission. Without them, our organization wouldn’t exist. While a dinner isn’t possible this year due to the pandemic, we will hold a virtual event via Zoom on Thursday, January 27, at 7 p.m. Please register to join us online.
In addition to our appreciation event, I want to give my thanks to our volunteers who have worked many hours during the last year to continue our important conservation, education, and birding programs. I also want to recognize the office volunteers and board members, who give their time and expertise to ensure the necessary administration and governance jobs are done. Thank you all so much!
Volunteers are essential to accomplishing our mission and we’re now looking for additional volunteers. We have some open roles for important part-time tasks, including:
Speaker coordinator for our monthly program nights
Someone to update our membership database regularly
Engagement coordinator, working to recruit and on-board new volunteers
Board secretary, taking minutes at monthly board meetings
Adult education coordinator, arranging for instructors for our adult classes
Conservation chair, leading our conservation work
If you’d like to learn more about any of these, fill out the interest form at https://www.eastsideaudubon.org/volunteer or email me at president@eastsideaudubon.org.
Finally, for people who want to support an organization planting native plants in Sammamish, I invite you to look into the Sammamish Stewards. The Sammamish Stewards Steering Committee is forming a group of volunteers to work to preserve, protect, and promote the natural environment in Sammamish, with a focus on restoration projects to enhance wildlife habitats using native plants. To learn about the benefits of membership in this organization, visit https://www.sammamishstewards.org/ and click the “Join Us” button. Members will be notified of programs, guided hikes, garden tours, and work parties with like-minded people who are passionate about the environment.
