Don Larkin was selected as the Eastside Audubon Society Photographer in March for his photographs of Cedar Waxwings.

The photos were taken on January 22nd at Madison Park in Seattle.

“My wife Margaret and I visited Madison Park with the purpose of photographing Cedar Waxwings,” he says. “It was a cold morning that day, and many of the birds didn’t arrive until after the sun had reached the trees. When they did arrive, a lot of the Waxwings were fluffed out to keep warm. It is always fun watching Waxwings practice their juggling act of tossing berries in the air and catching them in their beaks.”

He adds, “we always use long telephoto lenses and keep a safe distance away to let the wildlife feel relaxed and natural. “

You can see more Waxwing photos and the Larkins’ entire nature portfolio on their SmugMug.
