Photo of the Month: January

Cyndy Eng Earns January Photo of the Month Award for Crow and Rainbow Image

The January 2025 Eastside Audubon Photographer of the Month honor goes to Cyndy Eng for her striking photograph of an American Crow against a vibrant rainbow backdrop. The image was taken near the University of Washington's Montlake Parking Lot in December of 2024.

Cyndy recounts taking the shot: "I was returning to my car after a rain shower when I noticed a rainbow. I was pretty excited, but realized I only had my 200-600 mm lens with me. So when I tried to take a photo, I only got a small segment of the rainbow. Crows started to fly in my direction to the tree on my right. I decided to try and get photos of them crossing in front of the rainbow. My shutter speed was low, so I didn't get as many clear ones as I had been hoping for, but sometimes one is just enough."
