There is Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday….and GivingTuesday! Typically, GivingTuesday is a global day of giving to show support for the nonprofit organizations who are making a real difference in communities across the world. This year, Eastside Audubon is turning this event on its head and renaming it GratitudeTuesday to let you know how much we appreciate you.
This year has been quite a rollercoaster of emotions as our friends and neighbors continue to adapt to the evolving coronavirus pandemic. But through it all, you have been there to support the birds and wildlife in our community. From the office volunteers who have taken projects home, to the brand new volunteers who have rolled up their sleeves to take on responsibilities for virtual events—we are in awe of your passion for the work of our chapter and we are humbled by your commitment to our mission to protect our natural ecosystems.
At this month’s program night, we showcased author and wildlife photographer Paul Bannick, where he shared images and information from his new book Snowy Owl: A Visual Natural History. Learning more about these amazing birds by naturalists like Paul is only made possible by your generous support and the dedication of our loyal volunteers.
Your support comes in so many forms and each of them is essential to the work we do. Our volunteers donate thousands of hours each year to provide high-quality educational experiences for children and families. Our donors support a variety of community science and habitat restoration activities that provide vital information on the abundance of birds in our area and ensures that birds and other wildlife have the resources they need to thrive. And last but not least, our members raise our profile and help us speak as one voice as we advocate for comprehensive solutions to address climate threats.
So, to everyone who made 2020 a better and brighter year for birds by donating your time, talents, and treasures, I want to say a heartfelt “Thank You!” You have made an extraordinary difference this year for birds and other wildlife that rely on healthy habitats to thrive.
Wishing you all a warm and safe holiday season!
