January’s program night with Cindy Hansen of the Orca Network was fun and informative! Cindy covered the many species of whales that make the Salish Sea their home for part or all of the year. Check out her presentation below!
Whales are an indicator of the health of our oceans, and their fates are often interwoven with other species. Come and learn about some of our local whales and their connection to the marine birds that share the Salish Sea ecosystem.
Cindy has been the Education and Events Coordinator for Orca Network since 2016, and currently works from her home on San Juan Island while also doing education, outreach and advocacy throughout the region. She received a degree in Zoology from the University of Washington and has worked as a naturalist and educator for over 20 years. Cindy has also migrated with the gray whales to San Ignacio Lagoon in Baja Mexico for many years, where she works as a naturalist/guide.
